For a very long time, the Hyundai i20 has been the go-to choice of buyers in the premium hatchback space. Now, we have the new
Tata Altroz to challenge the i20. Let’s see how its top variant compares with the i20 (XZ vs Asta variant comparison). Let’s see which car has better bigger dimensions, size, engine, power, transmission and features.
In terms of dimensions, the Tata Altroz XZ has a slight advantage as it has longer, wider and taller body. It also has a much bigger boot than the i20 - 345 litres. But, the Hyundai i20 Asta has a slightly better ground clearance and much better wheelbase. I20’s wheelbase is 2570mm compared to the Altroz’ wheelbase of just 2501mm.
The petrol engine of the Tata Altroz and Hyundai Elite i20 is similar in displacement - 1.2-litre. The Altroz has 3PS more power output but the i20 makes 2Nm of extra torque. The Altroz has only 113Nm of torque but it comes at 3300rpm whereas the i20’s 115Nm of torque comes at 4000rpm. So, the Altroz should be easier to drive in the city traffic situation. Both cars have a 5-speed manual transmission. But, the i20 also has a CVT type automatic transmission option with the petrol engine.
The diesel engine is 1.5-litre in the Tata Altroz XZ but the i20’s diesel engine is only 1.4-litre. Still, the two cars make similar power output of 90PS. The Hyundai Elite i20 Asta diesel has 220Nm of torque while the Altroz has only 200Nm of torque. The i20 also has a 6-speed manual transmission while the Altroz only has a 5-speed manual transmission.

Elite i20 Asta and the Altroz XZ has a lot of common features like projector headlamps, DRLs, front armrest, rear AC vents, automatic AC, keyless entry and push-button start/stop, etc. But there are also differences.
